backstage, Miss Tibet

It was fascinating to attend the ‘Miss Tibet’ competition in Dharamsala, June, 2010. No frills, no fuss, no big names. The TIPA (Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts) grounds, free seating, loads of spicy Tibetan food, monks, nuns, children, mothers, tourists, and simply four contestants made for an unique evening.

I decided to shoot backstage – moments before the contest began. The fear, the tension, is so real. No matter how big or small the scale of the event.
